Of the hundreds of book proposals and manuscripts
we receive each year, less than 20% are actually chosen for publication.
Collector Books prides itself on being selective, choosing the more
popular subjects that collectors need, rather than more specialized
topics.
We do not solicit manuscripts. We are always looking for valuable
additions to our line of collector’s identification and value
guides, and would be interested in knowing more about your project.
To give us an idea of your book, please submit a proposal to my
attention. To some extent the materials submitted for review depend
on the nature of the book being developed. It is always best to
provide as much information as possible.
In the proposal, we ask that the author submit a resumé
or brief biography, an outline of the entire book, a fully developed
introduction, and at least one chapter fully developed and accompanied
by sample photos. We also need to know how much material will be
included in the completed book — how many photos? How much
written text? Also, how much time will be needed to complete the
manuscript? Since all of our identification and value guides have
values included, please provide a sample price guide for every item
pictured in your sample photos. Please give us information on how
you arrived at those prices. Once we have received your materials,
the publisher will review them and be back in touch with you as
soon as possible.
Your photos and manuscript will be returned if a self-addressed
stamped envelope is included with your proposal. All submitted manuscripts
and proposals are kept strictly confidential.
Authors under contract are paid quarterly on a royalty basis. Royalties
are paid according to the retail cost of the book and books will
be made available to you at a larger discount than a bookstore receives.
Although the photography expenses are left up to the author, we
pay for the production, printing, and distribution of the books.
We enjoy good working relationships with our authors and try to
make every publication as enjoyable and effective as possible. If
you have any questions or would like to talk to me about your plans,
please call me.
Best wishes with your project. We look forward to receiving your
materials for review. Remember, Collector Books doesn’t publish
any book — we only publish the best.
