Description: Marcia 'Sparkles' Brown, renowned jewelry expert and author of Unsigned Beauties of Costume Jewelry, Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry Volumes I and II, and Coro Jewelry, has produced an all-new volume, this time dedicated to rhinestone jewelry. The author has drawn from over 500 designers and unsigned pieces in her private collection to take readers on a sightseeing journey - you can view figurals; animals from the real to the unreal; and whimsicals that reveal the artistry of twentieth century jewelry designers. Chapters include 'People From Around the World' from faraway places like Africa and Australia; 'Dancers' from ballet to folk; 'Down on the Farm'; 'A Trip to the Zoo'; 'Transportation' from horse drawn carriages to airplanes; 'Under the Sea'; and 'Mystical Beasts' including dragons from China, India, and America. This book will take you around the world in your armchair, send you back in time to your childhood, and bring a smile to your face.
Review: Well, my friend Marcia "Sparkles" Brown has done it again--a book with over 2,000 items of jewelry from her own collection, with descriptions and suggested retail value for each item shown. She shares her vast knowledge of this subject with the first chapter, giving the general rules about collecting. Review of Rhinestone Jewelry June 12, 2006 Reviewer: Don Johnson - AntiqueWeek, May 2006
Maybe it's a guy thing. I just can't get excited about collectible jewelry, rhinestone or otherwise. Yet, I've learned over the years that jewelry books are among the quickest sellers when it comes to antique and collectible reference material. From that standpoint, this work is bound to be a true treasure for collectors as well as those who simply like the look of rhinestone jewelry. It's the specific nature of the subject - figures, animals and whimsicals such as a bicycle motif or an Eisenberg Ice strawberry - that gives this title real definition and strong appeal. Forget my tastes. If you like rhinestone jewelry, this is a book you have to check out.
